I've been riding for 29 years now. Always with a helmet. I should be wearing more protective clothing, but don't. Never had a major accident, but have had just about everything hit me from sleet, hail, lots of rain, every imaginable bug, cigarettes (now those suckers are dangerous). No matter how long you ride, you can never forget that it takes 110% of your concentration and senses to operate these machines. Taking your eyes off the road, or daydreaming is going to jump up and bite you when you least expect it. I slid in gravel at probably 5mph once... it's amazing how many bruises you can accumulate from once of these episodes. Just imagine the damage you can do at 35mph +...
